Tennessee state law provides for property tax relief for low-income elderly and disabled homeowners, as well as disabled veteran homeowners or their surviving spouses. Please visit our office for first time applications. Taxpayers must re-qualify each year. Below are the qualifications as listed by the State of Tennessee:
- Elderly: Must be 65 or older. You must own your home and reside in it as your primary residence. Income limits apply.
- Disabled: Must be rated disabled by the Social Security Administration or other qualifying agency. You must own your home and reside in it as your primary residence. Income limits apply.
- Disabled Veterans/Disabled Veterans’ Widow(er)s: Determination of eligibility for a homeowner who is a disabled veteran or widow(er) of a disabled veteran will be made based on information provided by the VA through use of consent forms.
· When do I apply? You may apply in October with the beginning of the tax collection season. Taxes must be paid in full before the application can be submitted to the state.
