Current year taxes run from January 1st through the last day of December, which are due and payable beginning October 1st through the last day of February of the following year. Beginning March 1st property taxes become delinquent and begin to accrue 1.5%  interest on the first day of each month. April 1st, prior year delinquent taxes are turned over to Chancery Court and are handled by the Clerk & Master. For more information, contact the Clerk & Master at 615-597-4360.

The Trustee's office aids elderly, qualifying veterans or their widows and disabled taxpayers in application and certification procedures with the Tennessee State Property Tax Relief Program. For qualifying applicants, the State of Tennessee will pay a portion of the property taxes for their home. Applications must be completed no later than 35 days after the February 28th tax payment deadline.

The Property Assessor is responsible for appraising the property values on which taxes are assessed. If your mailing address should change, please notify the Property Assessor's office at 615-597-5925.

The Trustee serves three primary functions: (1) collection of all county property taxes (all property, real and personal, tangible and intangible, must be assessed for taxation by the state or its political subdivisions unless property is declared to be exempt by some provision of Tennessee law); (2) keeping a fair and regular account of all money received; and (3) investing temporarily idle county funds.

The Trustee disburses sales tax revenues and may collect municipal property taxes and other state and local taxes. The Trustee generally acts as treasurer for the county, receiving and paying out funds. The Trustee must keep a detailed account of these transactions. The Trustee’s office is located at 732 S. Congress Blvd Rm 103, Smithville, TN 37166. Office hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm for your convenience. You may contact the Trustee’s office at 615-597-5176.

The Trustee's office accepts postmarked payments. Make sure your envelope is postmarked by the last day of February.
