Serving You Is An Honor,

Kristie Glass Maxwell
Tipton County Trustee

The County Trustee's Office acts as Treasurer for all of the funds of Tipton County Government, including the Tipton County School System. In this capacity, the County Trustee's Office is bound by law to collect all county real and personal property taxes, to keep a fair regular account of all money received for County Government, and to invest temporarily idle County funds. The Trustee also disperses sales tax revenues.

The Tipton County Trustee is elected at large for a four year term. The current Trustee is Kristie Glass Maxwell. Kristie took office on September 1st, 2006.

Tipton County property taxes begin to accrue on January 1st and continue through December 31 of the same year.

The Tipton County Commissioners set the annual tax rate, usually in July, after which time the tax roll is prepared by the State of Tennessee Division of Property Assessment. The Trustee's office receives the tax roll, prints notices, and mails them by October 1st of each year. The payment period for County taxes begins on the first Monday in October and continues through the last day of February of the following year. On March 1st, County taxes become delinquent and begin to accrue 1 ½% per month interest.

Tennessee law does not require the mailing of tax notices indicating the amount of taxes due. Owners of property are presumed to know that taxes are due without personal notice. Failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve the responsibility of payment, nor is this a reason for interest charges to be canceled if the tax bill becomes delinquent.
